My mother wouldn't do this!

Colin has this one toy that he is absolutely terrified of. It is a Bert & Ernie Giggle Ball and it is actually pretty scary, it makes this insane giggle sound and bounces around, and it looks like a severed head, but it has two faces. If I even take it out of the toy basket he starts to get uncomfortable, and turning it on just leads to tears. So why then, does it take all my self control NOT to take it out of the basket and show it to him? I'm sick and twisted! I blame sleep deprivation. My mother would not have done this.

John had two toys that he was afraid of! One was a life size ernie that was bigger than him! Cried everytime we made it "walk" and a dinosaur that walked and made this horrific sound. But, it's one of those things that makes up for all of those sleepless nights and stories when he is older! It makes them stronger!

LOL! You are funny! I would probably do the same thing. I checked out that ball/head, and I agree that it is creepy. I will have to remember not to buy that toy! You never know, maybe your mom DID do that to you.....do you have any unexplainable fears?

It was a gift, we do have a few things in the house that are Fisher Price but I didn't buy any of them. I am still boycotting their toys until their customer service people learn some manners, and until they start using PVC free plastic.

well, i figured since it wasn't plastic it was okay. i didn't realize that they have a nasty CS dept. usually, companies are pretty helpful. i have started a mini boycott as well. just on their plastic toys though.

Hahaha, this made me laugh. I like to harass my children, too. My favorite?? They have this book, and in the book there is this cat that is hiding in a tree, and you find the cat by lifting up a flap. Next to the cat are the words, "MEOW". Well -- whenever I meow, Ben goes crazy. Like it makes him so annoyed! He will look at me and "growl" and just go absolutely wild, shrieking and yelling -- he must find it so irritating.

maybe it has something to do with wanting to comfort him afterwards?? i know that there is just something unbelievably wonderful about being able to comfort your crying, scared child - even if you know you made him cry and scared. when aiden gets hurt or afraid, i can't help but love knowing that me picking him up and holding him is what makes him all better. so, maybe it's more about knowing that if you upset him...you'll be the one to be able to make it better. i don't think i'm explaining this quite the way i'm thinking about it in my head, but hopefully you know what i'm trying to say!
